Tourism Stakeholders in Pahalgam Hold Candlelight Protest Against Terror Attack on Tourists

Candlelight vigil of tourism stakeholders in Pahalgam against attacks by terrorists on tourists

Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir — A solemn candlelight march was organized today by the tourism fraternity in Pahalgam and led by the All National Tourist Association (ANTOA) along with various stakeholders against the terror act at Pahalgam lately that was directed against tourists.

Hoteliers, guesthouse owners, travel agents, shikarawallahs, pony wallahs, guides, and other tourism-related people participated in the march. They carried candles and marched through the main market area of Pahalgam strongly condemning the violent act and paying tribute to the victims.

The candlelight protest was meant to convey a message that violence against innocent people, tourists being no more than guests in the region, is abhorrent and destructive to the very foundations of the local economy and community. They also expressed their pain that in addition to loss of life, the attack hunted down the very sense of security that was so crucial for the sustenance of the tourism sector that supports the lives of thousands of individuals.

Representatives said that tourism is the lifeline of Pahalgam and several other parts of Kashmir. Such cowardly acts of terror, they stated, instill fear, dissuade tourists, and directly affect the economic well-being of the local population. They beseeched one and all to assure a peaceful atmosphere for tourists and reiterated Kashmir’s ancient tradition of hospitality.

They requested the administration to step up security arrangements so that such incidents are checked with an iron hand. The candlelight vigil was thus a prayer for peace and a testimony of unity of stakeholders and the tourism community against all disruptive forces that attempt to induce violence against peace and prosperity. The stakeholders reiterated their commitment to the promotion of tourism and welcoming visitors while offering prayers for lasting peace and security in the valley.
