Rallying Together for Tourism in Andaman : A Candlelight March by AATO Against the Terrorist Attack in Pahalgam
The Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) and a wide cross-section of tourism stakeholders organized a very touching candle march on April 24 to strongly condemn the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu, and Kashmir. Through this peaceful demonstration, they found a meaningful way to show solidarity with the victims and to reject the violence that threatens the industry and peace of the region.
The Pahalgam attack that tragically claimed innocent lives shocked the entire travel and tourism industry in India. Since these incidents have extremely negative consequences on tourists’ confidence and livelihoods dependent on tourism, AATO initiated this march.
People from every corner of tourism in Andaman and Nicobar Islands participated. A huge congregation of tour operators, hoteliers, travel agents, guides, and tourism stakeholders raised candles and banners in vehement protest for peace. The contrasting sight conveyed an unmistakable message: the tourism community under AATO is united against terrorism and is dedicated to ensuring safe and secure travel destinations.
The AATO, being the voice of tourism in the Andaman Islands, insisted on a peaceful atmosphere for sustainable tourism development. It advocated for better security in vulnerable areas for the safety and security of tourists. The AATO also expressed its commitment to join hands with all government agencies and security forces for responsible and safe tourism.
Remembering the vigil is a reminder that peace remains fragile and that joint endeavors in the hour of need remain relevant. This candle march had yet another agenda — to tell the traveler that the tourism industry stands for peace and is committed to ensuring safe and joyful experiences.
The Andaman Association of Tour Operators desires this show of solidarity provides a substantial message of resilience while emphasizing the unwavering commitment of the tourism community to the promotion of peace and security in all travel destinations. The AATO envisages that if the tourism community stands united against violence, tourism will be able to contribute significantly in fostering understanding, building bridges, and aiding a peaceful and prosperous future for all.
